Calcium vs. Lithium
Most lubricating greases in the market are still based on lithium soap thickeners. These greases are widely applicable, have good general properties, and always offer a good price-quality ratio. However, the global increase in vehicle electrification is leading to exponential growth in the demand for lithium worldwide.
This development increases lithium prices internationally, which could remove the significant advantage of value for money for lithium greases shortly. However, Kroon-Oil wouldn't be Kroon- Oil if it didn't react to his development by introducing a new range of high-quality lubricating greases based on water-free calcium soap thickeners. We are excited to introduce our latest product, the Q5 MP Calcep Grease EP 2, to our line of greases. It has advanced features that exceed our trusted MP Lithep Grease EP 2, creating an even better lubrication experience.

Q5 MP Calcep Grease EP 2
This high-quality multi-purpose grease with extreme pressure additives that can be used in various applications, including agriculture, earthmoving, industry, and several automotive settings. The soap thickener based on anhydrous calcium provides overall enhanced performance, allowing longer drain intervals compared to MP Lithep Grease EP 2 and offering extended protection against corrosion and wear to your equipment. In the performance spider webs in the figure below, you can clearly see that the new Q5 MP Calcep Grease EP 5 has a higher load capacity and significantly improved performance under damp and wet conditions. Other benefits include improved pumpability and higher mechanical stability. An additional advantage is that calcium greases can be produced in a much more environmentally friendly way than traditional lithium greases, which means that in addition to the better performance, their use is also kinder to our environment.
Q7 MP Calcep Grease WR 2
Anhydrous calcium-based soap thickener improves performance, allowing longer drain intervals than its replacement ST Q7 Universal Grease. We have also increased the base oil viscosity, making this new product even more suitable for heavily loaded bearings at medium to lower speeds. This makes the Q7 MP Calcep Grease WR 2 the choice for various applications in the agricultural sector, earthmoving, industry, and other applications where water and dirt are problematic. These include various roller and slide bearings, chassis lubrication, pin-bus joints, and wheel bearings.
Mixed Complex thickener: the best of both worlds
Special Mixed Complex thickeners combine the characteristics of lithium complex thickeners (high-temperature range, excellent mechanical stability and good pumpability) and calcium sulfonate thickeners (extremely high water resistance, extremely high load capacity and resistance to shock loads) into one product!
Another advantage of Mixed Complex thickener technology is that it allows anti-wear and extreme pressure additives to be integrated directly into the soap structure, so they are always in direct contact with the components to be lubricated. This eliminates the need for solid lubricants such as graphite or molybdenum disulphide (MoS2), with the major advantage of creating a transparent lubricating film that allows for a clear view of the running surfaces at all times during maintenance and inspection.

Q11 Xtreme Duty Grease EP 2
Extreme load capacity and superior water resistance make this new product perfect for heavy-duty applications in wet and/ or corrosive environments. Examples include various branches of heavy industry, earth-moving, and the agricultural sector, such as heavily loaded open gears of slewing rings on excavators.
The absence of solid lubricants allows for easy inspection and prevents the build-up of hardened layers of solid lubricants in the applications. Q11 Xtreme Duty Grease EP 2 is also suitable for slow-running, highly loaded bearings, pin-bus joints and heavy-duty steel cables. For extremely heavily loaded open gears, Compound OGL EP 0/1 is recommended.
Compound OGL EP 0/1
This is a “state-of-the-art” Open Gear Lube (OGL) for extremely heavily loaded open gears. In these industries, the transparent lubricating film, with no build-up of solid lubricants, is a significant advantage that makes this product stand out in the market.
Because there is no build-up of solid lubricants, damage and wear are avoided, and the gears can easily and quickly be inspected for wear during operation as there is no hard black layer on the running surface. This grease is also unique because it behaves like an NLGI 2 product at a standstill (providing perfect adhesion and sealing) and like an NLGI 0/1 grease under load. These properties make this product highly suitable for the lubrication of, among others, very slowly rotating and heavily loaded open gears, telescopic masts/ support legs, fifth wheels, steel cables and drive chains in marine, earth-moving and heavy industries.
